Remains
I walk around the neighborhood. It’s especially helpful after the landscapers have done their deeds. On the ground and in the swales are bits and pieces of leaves, shrubs and flowers. I bend and forage, gathering some here and there and here and there. Some retain color but are scarred by manhandling and sharp shears; for others, waning colors; for others, the browns and blacks of last gasps. I place them on the ground, arrange and rearrange and rearrange. Then I photograph from different angles, some vertical, some horizontal. The dying is deceived by the design of the composition and the enhancement in editing. However, memento mori cannot be denied.
