About

My artistic story began with a degree in fine arts, specializing in photography during the golden era of SLR cameras and darkroom alchemy. I spent hours processing black and white film by hand, mastering the art of enlargers and chemical trays. A pivotal semester in England allowed me to capture Stonehenge, eventually leading to experiments with 11x14" transparencies that transformed ancient monoliths into ethereal, translucent sculptures. 

 

While honing my technical skills working at a high-end photo lab in Boston, I acquired a Hasselblad to shoot medium format, black&white negatives for "i am," a self-portraiture series exhibition shown at a gallery in Cambridge, MA. This project served as an exploration of the female gaze from my own perspective.

 

Transitioning into cinema, I earned an MFA from NYU Tisch Institute of Film & TV, relocated to Los Angeles, and spent two decades as a professional screenwriter. While my aspirations to direct were met with the systemic challenges women faced in the industry at that time, my passion for visual storytelling remained unwavering throughout my career.

A move to Florida brought me to teaching all things film at two universities, one full time, one part time.  Twenty years later, I retired. 

 

With retirement, I returned to photography, this time digital and color.  I've been working on the "remains" series for 3 years.  That I am older, memento mori is on my mind, though truth be told, it's been on my mind since I was a child.

 

NOTE:   considering the layers of remains, I am also thinking about the layers underfoot, under the streets, under the houses, under the lakes.  A historical look brings to life the people who were first here before 1700, walking where I'm walking:  the Jaega Indians, later the  Seminole Indians.
